Ideas that will help your furry friends keep cool in this hot weather!

With the heat index rising today, and sweltering temperatures expected to last throughout the summer, both pets and their owners are looking for relief. Thankfully, a few treats can help you & your pet enjoy staying cool together.

If you are hot, it is likely that your pet is also very warm. Usually, you can tell by their panting and looking for a cool spot to lay in the house or to find shade outside. Just as we enjoy cool drinks and trips to the pool when it is scorching hot, so do our pets.

So, what can you do to help?

Baby swimming pools, ice cold bowls of water & some of these tasty Frozen treats!

Tucked away among the ice cream and fro-yos in the grocery store, Frosty Frozen Paw Treats offer pooches a chilly snack made just for them. And the treats are made with no added sugar, artificial flavors, or colors.

If you and your dog prefer to go organic, try organic frozen yogurt for dogs, available in a banana and peanut butter recipe designed to please your pooch’s palate. And the treats are full of antioxidants to give your dog an added healthy boost.

Another cool toy for hot days, the Mini COOL Chew from Petstages is a comforting toy for smaller breeds. Simply wet and freeze the toy to give your pooch some summertime relief.

One favorite recipe:

  • The Basic Frosty Paws Recipe
  • 32 oz. plain yogurt
  • 1 mashed ripe banana
  • 2 tablespoons peanut butter
  • 2 tablespoons honey

Mix all of the ingredients with a blender or mixer and freeze in ice cube trays. Small paper cups and disposable egg cartons also make good molds. When frozen, microwave for a few seconds, un-mold, and place the treats in a plastic bag and store in the freezer. (Note: if using Styrofoam egg cartons or cups, rest the containers briefly in a partially filled pan of warm water to loosen contents. Unless the Styrofoam is labeled as microwave safe, it could melt.) If you want to be fancy, bone and paw shaped molds are available.
